The interior surface of the Plexiglas frame shows slight irregularities. Christo, who became world-famous together with his wife Jeanne-Claude for his spectacular wrapping projects, transformed public space into a temporary work of art with the wrapping of the Pont Neuf in Paris in 1985. Two years later, he created this color lithograph, “Wrapped Trees,” which depicts the planned project for the Avenue des Champs-Élysées and the Rond-Point des Champs-Élysées. The image shows the diagonally running boulevard with a view of the Arc de Triomphe. The trees are wrapped in gray fabric, giving the familiar Parisian cityscape an unfamiliar, almost surreal effect.
