Saint Rita of Cascia Naples, Baroque, late 17th century. Walnut, masterfully carved in the round and painted in muted colors. With her glass eyes, the saint focuses her gaze on the crucifix she holds in her right hand. In her left hand, she holds a scourge made of braided wire. The twist in her body suggests that she is about to begin self-flagellation. Signs of age; some paint loss on the saint’s face.
