BONHEUR Marie-Rosalie Bonheur, known as Rosa [Bordeaux, 1822 – Melun, 1899], French painter. Letters of thanks regarding her promotion to the Legion of Honor or the receipt of bouquets of flowers. In another letter, she writes that she is sending a painting as a token of gratitude: “I am having the small box containing the painting shipped today; please accept it as a gift, for it is well deserved. I am delighted to offer it to you and hope you will do me the honor of not refusing it.” Signed autograph letter addressed to Mr. Gautray, foreman at the railway workshops in Clermont-Ferrand. “For some time now, having used up all the drawings, small studies, and small canvases I had available, I have nothing left that is finished, and I am so busy at the moment with two or three fairly large paintings.”
