GRIGNAN Françoise-Marguerite de Sévigné, Countess of [1646–1705], daughter of Madame de Sévigné. Autograph letter [addressed to her brother]; 4 pages, in-4°. “I have received your letter, my brother. I see that your efforts continue, and I find them quite tedious and exhausting for you; I believe it is time for all this to end, since your negotiations are making no progress—a sign that there is nothing to be done except through legal means.... We have already filed a protest upon receiving the five bales that were saved, and as soon as the others arrive, the appraisal will be conducted; a court order has been issued in Paris... by which the appraisal is mandated... I beg you... to have a copy of the official record—that is, the inventory drawn up by the king’s officials—sent to me, so that I may see what is missing from my belongings when they are inspected... Please accept all the apologies that Mr. de Grignan and I offer for all the trouble our miserable affairs are causing you.”
