RIC IV 123a; Calic 3268; Biaggi-. 4.79gr, 21mm, 1h. Near Mint State. The finest example of the type to come to auction. Acquired on the UK coin market. From the private coin collection of a West London, UK, gentleman. Otacilia Severa, the wife of Emperor Philip I, was Roman empress from AD 244-249 and, like her husband, was from the city of Emesa (located in modern-day Homs, Syria). Known for her piety and dedication, Otacilia was actively involved in religious and civic life during Philip's reign. She was regularly depicted on coinage with symbols of fertility and virtue (as here, promoting Pudicitia), reflecting her influence and the idealised image of imperial womanhood. TimeLine Auctions follows a rigorous vetting process to ensure the authenticity and legality of all items, reinforcing our commitment to integrity and responsible trading.
