Contemporary marbled sheepskin, gilt-ornamented spines with raised bands, red edges (front joint of vol. 1 beginning to split, head and tail of vol. 1 partially missing, some scratches on the front board of vol. 1, some light rubbing). Famous 18th-century encyclopedic and practical work by the French agronomist Liger (1658–1717), originally published in 1700 as *Oeconomie générale de la campagne*. Illustrated with 1 frontispiece, 37 (14, 23) plates, including 2 folding plates, 2 full-page woodcuts, and illustrations in the text. Vol. I is devoted to domestic animals (poultry breeding, cattle, horses, sheep—including beekeeping and silkworms) and agricultural practices (wine and grain cultivation, forestry...), Vol. II to vegetable and fruit gardens, hunting, bird-catching, fishing, and cookery (jams, liqueurs, beer and wine making, and “useful secrets”).
