Haniwa are terracotta figures crafted for ritual purposes to be buried alongside the dead, together with other funerary objects, and were used primarily during the Kofun period (3rd 6th century) in Japan. Thanks to the discovery of these statues, we possess detailed knowledge of the weapons and armour of the warrior caste that emerged during this specific period of Japanese history. Phallic statuettes are rare, but have been found in locations like Gunma Prefecture. TimeLine Auctions follows a rigorous vetting process to ensure the authenticity and legality of all items, reinforcing our commitment to integrity and responsible trading. Each antiquity, antique, and coin lot undergoes thorough examination by a vetting committee of at least ten external specialists, professional trade association members, scientists, and archaeologists.
