From an important London, UK, glass collection, formed 1990s onwards. This shape is a variety of hemispherical cups found in various materials and techniques during the first three centuries of the Empire. Clay cups of the same shape have been discovered alongside coins of Augustus in necropolises in Switzerland. An analogous form in glass appears in a cup fragment found at Karanis, Egypt, in a stratum dated to the 3rd century AD. The type of decoration is characteristic of the Syrian production centre during the 3rd century AD. TimeLine Auctions follows a rigorous vetting process to ensure the authenticity and legality of all items, reinforcing our commitment to integrity and responsible trading. Each antiquity, antique, and coin lot undergoes thorough examination by a vetting committee of at least ten external specialists, professional trade association members, scientists, and archaeologists.
