829 - BOUFFLERS, Louis-François de. Handwritten letter with autograph signature addressed to “The Magistrates of the City of Furnes.” Lille, January 26, 1697. Bifolio (22.5 x 17 cm): [2] pp., on laid paper with “A Malmeneide” watermark, pen and brown ink, in French, signed “Le mar[éch]al duc de Boufflers” (2 marginal pinholes). Good condition. Response to a request from the town of Furnes for a reduction in war taxes and permission for three soldiers who were citizens of the town. Boufflers had captured Furnes in 1693, an achievement that earned him his marshal’s baton. While remaining at the head of the Army of the Meuse, he became governor-general of Flanders and Hainaut in 1694. Attached: 1. Verdinan, lieutenant colonel—Certificate of service in the Hainaut Regiment. Thionville, October 16, 1684. Obl. 12mo (17 x 22 cm), on laid paper, pen and brown ink, in French (small marginal holes). Private Laverdure served 11 years in the regiment and “was maimed there during the siege of St. Guilain.” - 2. Prié, Hercule-Joseph-Louis Turinetti, Marquis de - Translaet [...]. Ghent, A. Graet, 1720. Small 8vo (stains on p. 1, slightly dusty). In ff. Ordinance on the interpretation and amendment of Article 17 of the Barrier Treaty (1715). Ref. Bibl. gantoise 2332.
