Complete set of the first Dutch translation (1st Latin 1657) of the encyclopedic study of animals known at the time by the Polish scholar and physician J. Jonston (1603–1675), who was descended from Scottish nobility and closely associated with the Polish magnate Leszczynski family. Illustrated with 4 engraved title pages and 250 plates depicting elephants, a unicorn, a rhinoceros, cats and dogs, frogs, whales, mermaids, falcons and other birds of prey, butterflies, beetles, seahorses, vipers, dragons, and dragon-like mythical creatures.
