Hendrick Goltzius - Portrait of Hans Bol - 1593 Description: Portrait of the painter/engraver Hans Bol, aged fifty-eight, bust in an oval with a skull and crossed bones beneath; cartouche with lettering in lower center; elaborate surround with two winged putti seated on books and engaged in drawing at top. text: "IOANNES BOLLIVS MECHLINIENSI PICTOR. ÆT. LVIII. Ao. CIC.IC.XCIII". In cartouche in lower center six lines of Latin containing dedication to Bol's stepson Frans Boels. Monogrammed in lower left corner: "HG". This is a first state before address of Hondius. 1593 Engraving by Hendrick Goltzius Dimensions: 25,60 x 17,80 cm Condition: Good impression on watermarks laid paper trimmed to the borderline.
