Hans Bol, Adrian Collaert - The Holy Trinity, Complete set (3) Description: Symbolum Athanasy et Nicenum - The Holy Trinity. The complete series of three plates engraved by Adrian Collaert after Hans Bol around 1580-1584. Plate 1: The Creation. Landscape with three Hebrew inscriptions surrounded by sun-rays and a large river with water-creatures at center, Adam and Eve with several animals under a tree at left, trees and other animals at right, angels on clouds above; second state with Hebrew inscriptions, Plate 2: The Baptism of Christ. Landscape with Jesus Christ stepping into a river in lower left corner, St John the Baptist holding a staff at left with two angels, Christ with other figures at right, angels on clouds with God (represented as an inscription surrounded by sun-rays) in top left corner, a city in background; Athanasian Creed in Latin in lower margin; Plate 3: The Descent of the Holy Ghost; landscape with Jesus Christ surrounded by heads of putti in a cloud at top center, tetragram at his left hand, the Apostles seated in a wooden structure below, tongues of fire above their heads, buildings and groups of figures in background on either side; Nicene Creed in Latin in lower margin; second state with image of God replaced by tetragram. Dimensions: 20,10 x 25,50 cm each Condition: Slightly weak silvery impressions on laid paper with a circular watermark. No folds or tears, last plate with some faded stains in the bottom text line. Full plate borders and with good wide margins mounted in an old window cut passe-partout with gold leaf.
