Johann Theodor de Bry - The Venetian wedding - c.1585-1600 Description: A Venetian wedding taking place in an interior overlooking the sea, presented within a circular composition. Elegantly dressed men and women surround the bride and groom, while three couples dance in the room and other guests are seated along the sides. At right, a senator dressed in a toga is depicted near a loggia where musicians are playing. At left, two figures from the commedia dell’arte, Magnifico and his assistant Zanni, enter the scene. A view across the lagoon appears in the background. The engraving was made by Johann Theodor de Bry, after the large engraving of the same title from 1584 by Hendrick Goltzius, after Dirck Barendsz. Dimensions: 16,50 cm diameter Condition: Good impression showing a little wear on laid paper, with the full plate border, with good margins. Verso clean. Overall in very good condition.
