Rüxners Turnierbuch - Landscape with noble convoy - 1530 Description: Book of tournement: Old colored woodcut from the second edition of 1532. This edition appeared only two years after the first 1530 edition of Georg Rüxners Turnierbuch and was printed by Hieronymus Rodler im Simmern Schloss. After the two early printings, two more editions with woodcuts by Jost Amman were to appear in 1566 and 1578, most woodcuts found are from those later Amman editions. Woodcuts from the two early editions are rare. ------------- The work satisfied the need of the beleaguered lower nobility for genealogical self-affirmation and for differentiation from the rising bourgeoisie, while nostalgically recalling the fading knightly tournament cultur from the time . ----- Some unconfirmed sources relate the subject of this woodcut to Fredrick III, The Pius (1515-1576) , count palatine of Simmern. Dimensions: 13,80 x 14,60 cm Condition: Full sheet of text and woodcut with wide margins . A few worm holes and soiling in the margins only. Circular collection stamp on the backside.
