Prophet Jeremie - Grüninger Bible - 1485 Description: This is a leave from the tenth Bible in Germany: Strasbourg:(Johann Grüninger), 2 May 1485. It follows the ninth large folio Koberger bible of 1483 and was the first one published in a more handsome reduced size more suitable for use as a family bible and contributed considerably to the transmission of the bible. The woodcut is resized version if the Koberger bible redesigned by an unknown cutter from Strasbourg in his own independent way. These woodcuts of early Strasbourg style count among the most impressive biblical illustrations in the 15thC. Due to it's more intensive use as a family bible the Grüninger bible is more rare then the Koberger bible as many got defected by used or lost. For every Grüninger tenth bible you will find some five Koberger ninth edition, although both are of course extremely rare. --- Rare and nice incunabula sheet with wonderful decorated initials and rubrication in blue and red.
