This piece belongs to Salvador Dalí's production of decorative arts, a field that the artist consciously approached as an extension of his creative universe, without establishing hierarchies between the so-called "fine arts" and objects of use or collection. This is a polychrome porcelain plate gilded with gold, conceived as a support for a stylized self-portrait of Dalí, resolved by means of a loose, almost calligraphic drawing. The face appears synthesized in black spots and gestural strokes on a warm background, evoking baroque iconography and, at the same time, the spontaneity of surrealist automatic drawing. The circular frame is traversed by thin radial golden lines, which function as a halo or energy field around the portrait, reinforcing the idea of Dalí as a central, almost mythical figure. The combination of black, ochre and gold tones generates a strong visual contrast and brings depth and solemnity to the image. Most of Dalí's production is gathered in the Dalí Theater-Museum in Figueras, followed by the collection of the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg (Florida), the Reina Sofía in Madrid, the Salvador Dalí Gallery in Pacific Palisades (California), the Espace Dalí in Montmartre (Paris) or the Dalí Universe in London.
