68 - Set of four bergère-style armchairs, faux bamboo. France, 1970s.

Set of four bergère-style armchairs, faux bamboo. France, 1970s. Carved wood imitating bamboo, Viennese wickerwork, and fabric upholstery. They exhibit sligthly wear consistent with age and use on the wood and variations in color on the upholstery. Measurements: 86 x 60 x 56 cm (each armchair). This set of four armchairs stands out for its elegant, enveloping design and the combination of natural materials, characteristic of Oriental-inspired furniture reinterpreted during the 1970s. Their carved wooden frames replicate the canes and knots of bamboo, in keeping with the decorative style known as faux bamboo. The curved backrests, which extend into the armrests, incorporate Viennese lattice panels that lend visual lightness, while the seats and certain sections of the backrest feature light-colored upholstery with a subtle geometric pattern, accented by small dark tacks. Its design reinterprets the French tradition of bergère armchairs—characterized by their enveloping and comfortable shapes—by incorporating the lightness of the latticework and the penchant for Oriental motifs typical of the interior design of that era.
