Fragment of a finger. Roman Empire, 1st–2nd centuries A.D. Carved marble. Measurements: 8 cm. Provenance: Family bequest from Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Archaeological collection assembled beginning in the 1950s by successive generations of the family through acquisitions at European galleries and auction houses. This piece previously belonged to the A. Aróstegui Collection (Madrid). Fragment of a sculpture carved from white marble. The finger—possibly part of a thumb, given its shape and length—is bent. Fragments of this type are commonly found at Roman archaeological sites due to the large number of sculptures created in carved white marble, depicting a variety of subjects of great importance (portraits of emperors, deities, allegories, etc.).
