Attributed to MARCEL MARTÍ (Alvear, Argentina, 1925 – Peratallada, Girona, 2010). Untitled. Patinated bronze. It shows isolated areas of patina loss visible on the surface. Measurements: 34.5 x 13 x 6.5 cm. Provenance: Estate of Ramon Martí Alsina and Ricard Martí Aguiló. Artistic and heritage collection originating in the legacy of Catalan painters Ramon Martí Alsina (1826–1894), a seminal figure of 19th-century Catalan Realism, and his son Ricard Martí Aguiló (1857–1935). Passed down and enriched across successive generations, the collection brings together works from the original holdings of both artists alongside acquisitions made by their descendants. Dedicated to preserving and recovering the family legacy, the descendants actively reacquired works by the painters as they entered the market, progressively expanding the collection to encompass paintings, sculptures, archaeological artifacts, and other items of artistic and historical significance. The piece exhibits a marked verticality and an organic construction characteristic of the artistic language developed by Marcel Martí during his mature period. The volume is articulated through large curved planes, deep concavities, and a succession of rounded forms that run along one of its sides, creating a silhouette that changes depending on the viewer’s perspective. The polished surface intensifies the contrast between the convex areas, which catch the light, and the deeper recesses. This interplay between concave and convex elements, combined with the formal synthesis and ascending rhythm, is closely related to the organicist style that Martí developed beginning in the mid-1960s and which characterizes much of his later work. Marcel Martí was a leading figure in the postwar Catalan sculptural renewal. After an initial figurative phase, he evolved toward abstraction and developed a personal vocabulary based on organic forms, refined volumes, and a special focus on the qualities of materials such as bronze, stone, and marble. His work is represented, among other institutions, at the Museo de Arte Público in Madrid and the Fundació Suñol.
