In 1830, it was then that Providence allowed me to purchase the land for the Notre-Dame du Lac mission from the government...let us return to the college; the Indiana legislature granted it the title of university...” A beautiful, rare historical letter Letter in French from Notre-Dame du Lac, Saint-Joseph, dated November 5, 1845, consisting of 10 pages by Étienne Théodore Badin (1768–1853, signature and one handwritten page), postmarked in South Bend (faint postmark), addressed to Abbé Moreau, rector of Notre-Dame de Sainte-Croix in Le Mans, France.
