Acrylic inks and watercolor on paper 36 × 51 cm (14.17 × 20.08 in.) Gibrat excels in the art of portraiture. Thanks to her red beret, we immediately recognize Jeanne, the heroine of *The Flight of the Raven*. Here she poses, solemn as an Ingres model, but her gaze is shifting, fragile, as if she were in a hurry to attend a ceremony. She is magnificent in her black costume, illuminated by her white scarf and gloves, standing before an engraving that could depict Lenin. Gibrat paints broad, dark masses around her against a lightly sketched background, while the light—diffuse and soft—delicately contours her face before catching on the scarf, the true focal point of light in the image.
