India ink on paper 25.5 × 36.5 cm (10.04 × 14.37 in.) Elegance and wit are the hallmarks of this series by Frank Le Gall, which makes its debut here: Théodore Poussin has left Dunkirk for Indochina and arrives in the port of Haiphong feeling somewhat under the weather, following in his uncle’s footsteps. Le Gall’s drawing style is still somewhat schematic: it fits right in with the “big-nosed” style of *Le Journal de Spirou* at the time. It will become more realistic as his adventures unfold. But all the pieces are already in place: the ominous Barthélémy Novembre makes an appearance in the final panel, though his connection to the hero remains a mystery...
