Schwartz OLIVIER SCHWARTZ AN ADVENTURE OF SPIROU AND FANTASIO The Death of Spirou (Vol. 56), Dupuis 2022 Original artwork No. 29, previously published in *Le Journal de Spirou* No. 4395 on July 6, 2022. Signed. India ink on paper 35.5 × 46.1 cm (13.98 × 18.15 in.) In *Incal: The Light* by Moebius and Jodorowsky, a kind of electronic crab tries to devour John Difool. Olivier Schwartz drew inspiration from this for the first panel of this spectacular page, in which a horseshoe crab—here enhanced by pollution—sets off in pursuit of Spirou. The contrast between the low-angle shot in the first panel—which is very large, like the animal itself—and the third panel, shot from above and much smaller, when Spirou seems on the verge of being caught by its dark claws, is striking. At the very bottom, Spip experiences an identical mishap, but in panels that are, conversely, miniaturized, reminiscent of the image slideshows one might have seen in old slide projectors. “Just as Chris Ware liked to draw parallel stories in small panels, here it is Spip who, separate from the main characters, is confronted by a much smaller horseshoe crab.” O.S.
