Bonhomme MATTHIEU BONHOMME LUCKY LUKE (AS SEEN BY...) Lucky Luke’s Long March, Lucky Comics 2026 Original artwork no. 65. Signed. India ink on paper 35 × 50.2 cm (13.78 × 19.76 in.) Here we have a distillation of the narrative style in which Matthieu Bonhomme excels. High-angle shots, low-angle shots, American shots, close-ups… Each framing choice moves us forward in the sequence while building tension. In the first part of the panel, we’re at a good distance from the characters. We move closer as the threat becomes more apparent. Then, Lucky Luke’s dark glare and the clatter of Joe Dalton’s revolver create a cliffhanger that keeps us on the edge of our seats. Note the remarkable work on the solid black areas of the hero’s jacket, and the wealth of detail that makes the third panel particularly compelling. “For the first panel, I needed a top-down view to be able to depict what was happening. That way, I was able to show that Lucky Luke was rushing toward the door, but also that he was small and in danger. In the last panel, Joe could have pointed his revolver at us, but I preferred to angle it to the left to emphasize his presence.” M.B.
