Uderzo ALBERT UDERZO BELLOY The Knight Without Armor (Vol. 1), Michel Deligne 1977 Original artwork no. 2 based on the script by Jean-Michel Charlier, first published in the newspaper *La Wallonie* on September 20, 1951, with gouache color indications on the reverse. Signed. India ink on paper 41.7 × 52.5 cm (16.42 × 20.67 in.) This page is remarkable, both stylistically and historically. First, because Belloy is an original creation by Uderzo: a blond, muscular hero, inspired by Jean Marais, whose adventures would later be continued by Jean-Michel Charlier, then editorial secretary at World Press. This page tells the story of how Belloy, a child abandoned during a Viking raid, is taken in by Father Hoc. The artwork here is particularly impressive, drawing on influences from both Calvo and American comics: highly dynamic panel layout, bold perspectives, and powerful inking. At the time, the artist was only 24 years old. *Belloy* is nothing less than the birth of a genius.
