Oliver Goldsmith’s wonderfully illustrated Animated Nature was the first work in the English language that brought the science of Natural History within the range of popular study. His place in history is assured due to his amazing ability to popularise knowledge and make it attractive to the general public. His illustrations are finely detailed, interesting and attractive.
