Lace interlacing, Europe, circa 1880–1890 Folded fan; the tulle panel is adorned with bobbin lace featuring floral motifs and garlands. The frame is made entirely of re-drilled goldfish mother-of-pearl, engraved with flowers, quivers, and torches—symbols of Love. Height: 33.5 cm; Fan leaf height: 20 cm In a box bearing the address of the fan maker Duvelleroy in Paris on the underside of the lid. N.B.
