From his earliest photographic series, he revealed his social sensitivity and political awareness. His photography has always been closely tied to the evolving situation in his native country, South Africa. This monograph brings together many of Goldblatt’s most influential series, including *On the Mines*, *Some Afrikaners*, and *Structures*, as well as lesser-known ones such as *Kas Maine*. It also explores his creative process and his work in the press. An unpublished text by the photographer complements the essays by Ivor Powell and Karolina Ziebinska-Lewandowska, both of which explore Goldblatt’s work within the context of South African political and cultural history, as well as his contribution to the history of photography.
