53 - Cuisset Thibault French Countryside. Steidl, 2019. For over thirty years, Thibaut Cuisset's photographs have moved between issues related to landscape, the environment and the notion of territory. With the contemporary acuity of an eye worthy of the American photographers of the New Topographics movement, Thibaut Cuisset captures the singularity of our countryside, without embellishment or nostalgia. His images show that there's nothing fixed about the land, that it's the result of history, of multiple, ever-active interventions. This perpetual shaping is the subject that photography comes here to examine and authenticate. With great precision and virtuoso restraint of color, it bears witness to the balances and upheavals of our countryside; preface by Jean-Christophe Bailly, postfaces by Didier Mouchel and Patrick Remy, color photos.
