In 2003, while riding his motorcycle home from Le Grand Circle Diego casino one evening, Cyril Costilhes' father was involved in an accident that left him with front-lobe dementia. As a result, just over 10 years later, Cyril Costilhes returned to unravel the mysteries of the land that took his father's sanity. The French photographer has recorded his findings in his new book Le Grand Circle Diego - and the result is dark, twisted and surprising. Beginning with an eerie quote from Conrad's Heart Of Darkness, it reveals a nightmarish side to an otherwise idyllic city. Obscure, uncaptioned images of discarded bones and facial deformities flicker towards puddles of torn flesh and blood as Costilhes wrestles with his demons and revisits his father's old house.
