Odilon REDON. Autograph letter, Bièvres, April 12, 1914. 2 pp. small in-4. A beautiful letter to one of the founding members of the association La Peau de l’Ours following the famous sale on March 2, 1914, of five pastels by Redon: *La Druidesse* 680 francs, *Sous l’arche* 900 francs, *La Chevelure* 400 francs, *Fleurs sur fond noir* 1,300 francs, *Bouquet de Fleurs* 1,300 francs. “I’m not dreaming—this is really happening!! I acknowledge receipt of the check... This is the first time I’ve witnessed the beneficial effects of cooperation, and to the artist’s advantage. The experiment you’ve undertaken, along with a few friends, can only thrive; it will be followed as a prime example. And as for me, having observed the art world for half a century, my heart has never deceived me: everything I loved when I was young—and ever since—I’ve seen it sell for two or three hundred francs, only to see it fetch much higher prices later on. The law of love never fails. Your association was solidly founded because it was based on this law. So do it again—for the happiness of others, to affirm the truth of art.”
