BERTAUT (Jean). Collection of the Poetic Works of Mr. Bertaut, Bishop of Sées, Abbot of Aunaie. Second edition, expanded by more than half compared to the previous printing. Paris: Lucas Breyel, 1605, 8 folios with title page and 344 folios numbered. — A collection of several love poems. Latest edition, revised and expanded. Ibid., Philippe Patisson, 1606, 6 ill. folios, 98 numbered folios. — *Panarète* or *Fantasy on the Baptismal Ceremonies of His Highness the Dauphin*. Ibid., Abel L’Angelier, 1607, 2 ill. folios and 54 ff. numbered, comprising 3 works in one in-8 volume, soft ivory vellum with an overlay, gold thread and central foliage motif, spine decorated with gold florets and gold edges. (Antique binding). A precious volume comprising the complete works of the Norman poet Jean Bertaut (1552–1611), a disciple of the poets of the Pléiade and of Desportes. It contains the second editions—partly original—of these first two works. This edition of the first *Recueil* is highly sought after because it is expanded by more than half compared to the previous printing (the original edition appeared in 1601): religious pieces, political poems, eulogies, speeches... including the long poem *Sur Le Trépas de M. de Ronsard* (pp. 134–148). This second edition of *Vers amoureux* contains fifteen new pieces compared to the original edition, published in 1602, which remains extremely rare; this collection of love poems and stanzas was published anonymously because the author was then chaplain to Queen Marie de Médicis. The third work, *Panarète*, a poem on the birth and baptism of the future Louis XIII, is a first edition of great rarity. A very fine copy, with wide margins, in its original gilt-veelin binding, perfectly preserved. The second endpaper bears the handwritten bookplate of Pierre Junca, a contemporary of the author. From the Bordes de Fortage Library (bookplate, vol. II, No. 1724). Brunet, I, 814–815 Renouard, Breyer, no. 77 Renouard, Estienne, 194 Barbier-Mueller, IV–1, nos. 31–32 Ducimetière, *Mignonne allons voir*, no. 135 Picot, Rothschild catalog, I, No. 820 Balsamo & Simonin, No. 409.
