His work is rooted in a conceptual approach, aiming for results that are surprising, intriguing, and surreal. His conceptual approach explores our perception of the world, driven by a strong fascination with semiotics and symbols, resulting in radical and critical design. He aims to redefine the paradigm of creation and consumption. Based in Eindhoven, Pierre Castignola develops a conceptual approach rooted in semiotics and symbols, which aims for surprising—and at times surreal—results and seeks to redefine the relationship between creation and consumption. The title “Copytopia,” a portmanteau of “copy” and “utopia,” sums up this project: making industrial reproduction the starting point for a new form. Assembled from parts of blue one-piece chairs, the piece subverts the most commonplace archetype of contemporary furniture to transform it into a unique object. A radical and critical design.
