BINÉTRUY, CHARLES Paris Title: Directoire-Style Bronze Portal Pendulum Clock. Date: ca. 1800. Material: Fire-gilded bronze, black marble. Dimensions: 49 x 26 x 14 cm. Mark: Inscribed “Binétruy à Paris” on the dial (Charles Binétruy, Tardy, p. 58). Description: Rectangular base with four pillars supporting the cresting with a curved pediment. On top, finely chiseled and partially applied matte bronze mounts. The cylindrical clock case is adorned with rich drapery. Enamel dial with Roman hour numerals and Arabic minute numerals. The chapter ring for the date runs along the edge of the dial. Large, round 14-day pendulum movement with threaded suspension, half-hour chime on a bell, and date.
