MEISSEN Title: Impressive Monumental Porcelain Snake-Handled Vase with Delicate Painting. Date: 1924–1935. Designer: Model by Ernst August Leuteritz. Material: Porcelain, cobalt-blue ground, polychrome painting, accented with gold. Dimensions: Height approx. 76.5 cm. Mark: Swords mark painted blue under glaze, incised number, model number 'A 195' (incised). Description: A cobalt-blue, baluster-shaped body with a tapered neck, mounted on a tapered, fluted round foot featuring elaborate relief work. On either side, two handles attached at the shoulders, each shaped like two ascending snakes. Within gold-framed quatrefoil panels are magnificent depictions of Diana bathing and a still life featuring fruit and lobster, based on paintings by François Boucher and Cornelis de Heem, respectively.
