1713 - COMPANION SCIPIO

COMPANION SCIPIO Adoration of the Golden Calf Oil on canvas, 107x162 cm The painting ties in well with others by the painter that are very similar both in composition and subject matter, such as Moses Bringing forth Water in a private Milanese collection and Martyrdom of St. Ursula in Vienna, Kunsthistorisches Museum, in which we find the same multitudes of moving figures and the same landscape backgrounds that are lost in the distance amid singular silhouettes of mountains. The work has its own particular narrative vividness, realized with great imagination, and is an important addition to the painter's catalog. Also reported and commented on by Achille della Ragione, who notes "the dense crowd of figurines whose indistinct mass lives in landscapes and views defined by certain recurring architectural and structural elements, always played with a palette where brown and brown colors predominate." (100 unpublished works of Neapolitan painting, by Achille della Ragione, Edizioni Napoli arte, Naples 2014 also online http://www.guidecampania.com/dellaragione/articolo14a/3.htm) Work accompanied by expertise by Prof. Egidio Martini.
