DOMENICO DEL PINO Portraits of Young Artists with Genoa in the Background, 1817 Pair of watercolors on paper, 18x15 cm; signed and dated on labels. These two elegant paintings depict two young Genoese men against highly evocative backgrounds: in one, we see the Lanterna of Genoa with the harbor; in the other, the Ducal Palace. They are the work of a little-known artist about whom little is yet known: Domenico del Pino, an Italian draftsman and engraver active in Genoa during the first half of the 19th century (particularly between 1800 and 1820). He is known for several engravings from the Napoleonic era, created in collaboration with engravers such as Giuseppe Piaggio, which include historical portraits (such as that of Count Luigi Emanuele Corvetto) and cityscapes. He worked as a naturalist illustrator for Giorgio Gallesio’s monumental work *La Pomona Italiana*. Due to their unique historical and artistic significance (they are Del Pino’s only known watercolor works), the two portraits will be the subject of a future publication.
