JEAN-BÉRENGER DE NATTES (France, 20th century). Pair of floor lamps, ca. 1990. Metal frame, stainless steel bases, bodies covered in red leather, and Japanese paper shades. Monogrammed “JBN PARIS” and numbered 5/20 and 11/20. Limited edition of 20 pieces. In good condition. Measurements: 162.5 x 42 x 42 cm (each). This pair of floor lamps is a outstanding example of Jean-Bérenger de Nattes’ limited-edition furniture and lighting production, characterized by a combination of high-quality materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and a highly refined aesthetic. Their refined geometry and architectural proportions evoke the influence of Eastern decorative arts reinterpreted through a contemporary sensibility. With a pronounced verticality, each lamp features a prismatic body covered in leather in a deep burgundy shade, with visible stitching that accentuates its handcrafted character. The composition is completed by an upper structure of straight metal profiles that frames a cubic shade made of Japanese paper. The hallmarks of the smooth surface of the leather, the coolness of the steel, and the delicate translucent texture of the paper create an intriguing dialogue among the materials.
