OPULENT GEMSTONE AND DIAMOND NECKLACE Origin: Presumably Italy. Date: ca. 1980. Material: 750/- yellow gold, hallmarked. Weight: 208.5 g. Dimensions: Inner diameter 11.0 x 12.9 cm. Diamonds: 20 brilliant-cut diamonds totaling approx. 0.8 ct., I-J/SI. Gemstones: 84 round cabochon-cut gemstones, presumably chrysoprase, Ø approx. 2.5–5.3 mm. Description: The necklace is semi-rigid and fits snugly around the neck. It can be opened at the sides using hinges. The lower section is richly decorated with curved, almost Baroque-style ornaments. The stones are set within undulating, relief-like gold structures. The design becomes simpler toward the top.
