Bassano, late 18th century. Pair of etchings, 528 × 580 mm each. They are part of the famous series of the four elements, one of the most delightful and sought-after series in Bassano’s etching tradition. The prints were produced in two versions, with or without the large and ornate frame, which was engraved separately on a much larger plate; without the frame, the image measures approximately 370 × 520 mm. In many copies, there is an unsightly mismatch between the frame and the image, due to the reuse of the frame for other series. This issue is not present in the two sheets offered here. The titles in multiple languages attest to the international reach of the Remondini prints, which, as is well known, were intended for a broad European market.
