Maggiali, Giuseppe. Account of the Wedding of Their Majesties Philip V and Elizabeth Farnese. Parma, Printing House of His Serene Highness, 1717. A work considered one of the finest examples of Italian Baroque literature dedicated to festivities Maggiali, Giuseppe. Account of the Wedding of Their Majesties Philip V and Elizabeth Farnese. Parma, Printing House of His Serene Highness, 1717. Folio (310 x 210 mm); 115, [1] pages. Allegorical copperplate-engraved frontispiece, 5 folded plates at the end of the volume (small tears on the plates, sporadic stains). Contemporary bazzana leather binding, 6-rib spine with gilded lilies in the compartments, polychrome spray-painted edges (delicate restorations). A magnificent publication produced on the occasion of the wedding of Philip V of Spain to Elisabetta Farnese, the last descendant of the dynasty that had reigned over Parma and Piacenza since the 16th century. Richly illustrated, the work documents the solemn celebrations organized for the event, from plates depicting the procession marking the groom’s and Cardinal Gozzadini’s entry into Parma to the sumptuous decorations and temporary installations set up for the occasion. A work regarded as one of the finest expressions of the Italian Baroque dedicated to festivities
