Folio (338 x 215 mm); [20], 308, [12] pages. Woodcut printer’s marks on the title page and on the verso of the colophon (slight scattered flourishes). Contemporary soft parchment binding, dated on the top cover and with a handwritten title on the spine (slight signs of wear). Ownership note by Giovanni Alberti: “given to him by M. Baccio Tolomei”; ex libris and wax seal of Giuseppe Maria Martelli. A full-leaved copy in a beautiful contemporary binding. Among the various editions of classical Greek and Latin authors edited by the Florentine scholar and man of letters, this one is considered the best. The Poetics originally consisted of two books, of which only the first—concerning tragedy with references to the epic poem—has survived.
