An important incunabulum by Gregory the Great in its original binding A fresh copy with generous margins of the *Moralia, sive Expositio in Job* by Pope Gregory I, printed in Venice by Reynold of Nijmegen in 1480. The copy, in excellent condition except for a tear, sporadic stains, and loose front leaves, is bound in a contemporary dark brown calfskin binding with dry-stamped decorations; it is beautiful but in need of restoration. Also known as the *Magna Moralia*, this work is a commentary on the Book of Job composed by Gregory the Great between 578 and 595. The work, his most important and extensive, was begun during Gregory’s stay at the court of Emperor Tiberius II in Constantinople and completed several years after his return to Rome.
