Oppian of Corycos. *De Piscatu*, 5 books. *De Venatione*, 4 books. Paris, Morel, 1555. A rare Latin edition of one of the oldest treatises on hunting and fishing Oppian of Corycos. *De Piscatu*, 5 books. *De Venatione*, 4 books. Paris, Morel, 1555. Quarto (208 x 152 mm); [4], 202 (i.e., 203), [1] pages (the folio comprising pages 117/120 is poorly bound). Printer’s mark on the title page; text in Latin only, not in Greek (title page lined, scattered browning and foxing, a few woodworm holes). Contemporary full-parchment binding with a handwritten title on the spine (the upper hinge is detached). One of the most important ancient treatises on hunting and fishing, presented here in a rare variant lacking the first part containing the Greek text. The work by Oppian of Corycos, a 2nd-century Greek author, is divided into five books devoted to fishing and four to hunting, and offers a rich collection of observations on the animal world, with particular attention to hunting and fishing techniques. This copy conforms to the digitized copy held at the Austrian National Library (*35.G.5), though that copy is missing two unnumbered pages present in our copy. Rare Latin edition of one of the earliest treatises on hunting and fishing
