Manuscript on paper, text in two handwritings in brown ink, 41 of 43 ink-and-watercolor drawings in the text inspired by the engravings of Raffaello Schiaminossi (slight browning, a few stains, some loose or detached leaves; leaf 60 with two figures is missing). Bound in recycled paper with a 15th-century text (worn, with missing sections on the spine and headbands). This volume is based on Ridolfo Capoferro’s famous treatise, which codifies the principles of sword and dagger fencing, distinguishing between stances, guards, parries, and offensive moves. The drawings accompanying this copy effectively translate the principles of the art of fencing into images, vividly illustrating the variety of guards, movements, and actions described in the text.
