Square 8vo, full brown marbled calfskin, ribbed spine, gilt frame with panels adorned with gilt fleurs-de-lis, burgundy leather title label, gilt fillet with notches, red edges. 1 blank folio (title page) and 82 pages, the last of which is a fold-out. Some minor scuffing, cardboard cover warped at one corner, incipient tears at the top cap, two small tears in the lower cover. A rare first edition. Privately printed in Vitry-le-François in Champagne, this manual details complex methods for the alignment and maneuvering of squadrons based on their actual strength. Jacques Delaurens de Beaujeu (1727–1781), who joined the prestigious King’s Mounted Grenadier Company in 1750, rose through the ranks before ending his career with the rank of field marshal in 1780.
