A superb copy of the minutes of the Estates-General of Languedoc held between January 15 and February 15, 1789, in a sturdy full black morocco binding bearing the coat of arms of the Estates of Languedoc. Folio (255 x 375 mm), full black morocco, spine with 6 raised bands, ornamented panels with a central gilt fleur-de-lis, triple gilt fillet framing the covers stamped with the coat of arms of the Estates of Languedoc, double gilt fillet with notches, guilloché caps, gilt edges. 561 and 35 pp., XXVII (table of contents) and 2 unnumbered folios, title vignette featuring the coat of arms of the States of Languedoc, headpieces, initials, and tailpieces. Binding slightly rubbed; gilding on the raised bands and caps faded; a few fine white marks and scratches on the covers; some minor foxing. First edition of the minutes of the Estates-General of Languedoc held from January 15 to February 15, 1789, followed by a table of contents and two appendices devoted to the seneschalships of Carcassonne and Toulouse. First edition recording the sessions of the Estates-General of Languedoc held in Montpellier from January 15 to February 15, 1789. This session was the very last in the province’s history before the upheaval of the Revolution. Published on the eve of the meeting of the Estates General in Versailles, the minutes capture the final political, fiscal, and structural tensions in one of the most powerful provinces of the Ancien Régime. At the end of the volume are two financial and administrative appendices devoted to the seneschalships of Carcassonne and Toulouse. A very fine ceremonial copy, bound in a binding bearing the coat of arms of the period.
