Manufactured by G&S in 1942. Damaged MK II chin strap. 80% of the khaki paint remains, though it is grainy. The white band running around the shell is 70% intact. The authenticity of the white band is not guaranteed. Note: The item shows some wear and patina. Condition II+. During World War II, the Allies recognized the need for units specifically tasked with organizing and securing landing zones during amphibious operations, in order to enable the efficient arrival, deployment, and movement of reinforcements. To this end, the British formed joint-service units comprising personnel from the three main branches of their armed forces: the Royal Navy—notably the Royal Naval Commandos—the British Army, and the Royal Air Force. The ground component of these formations itself brought together several specialties essential to the effective operation of a beachhead. It included, in particular, infantry and Royal Engineers units, as well as personnel responsible for ordnance and equipment, members of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, the Royal Army Medical Corps, and the Royal Army Service Corps. These units were tasked with ensuring the immediate organization of the beaches and landing zones, facilitating the movement of personnel, vehicles, and equipment, and enabling the rapid establishment of the services necessary for the continuation of operations inland.
