- ESSO Pin-Up - c. 1960 “The Oil Drop—The Girl” Original lithographed advertising sheet metal cutout in the shape of a pin-up girl/oil drop. 40 cm high. On the reverse: “Imprelac Tri 31-16 FA 11323. P.154/60” - Good overall condition - Original gloss with fresh colors; the reds are well preserved. Minor traces of localized oxidation along the edges. Very slight fading of the white in the lower section beneath the word “ESSO.” There is a very faint crease at the waist, virtually invisible to the naked eye. Originating from the famous Standard Oil, a company founded in 1870 by John D. Rockefeller, the ESSO brand takes its name directly from the phonetic pronunciation of the initials “S.O.” Marking a historic global turning point, the company decided on June 1, 1931, to unify its network under the name Standard, leading to the disappearance of local brand names such as “Eco” in France, “Pratt’s” in England, “Lampo” in Italy, and “Dapolin” in Germany.
