Markus Prummer, Untitled An abstract interplay of colours; as in ‘abstract expressionism’, the artist allows the colour to speak for itself as both medium and subject matter. Areas of colour are deliberately overlaid with further colour elements, thereby merging in harmony and contradiction; in places, the paint appears to have been applied to the canvas in a collage-like manner; mixed media (acrylic and acrylic spray paints) on canvas, signed and dated 2024 in the bottom right-hand corner, also signed on the reverse, unframed, inner dimensions 150 x 120 cm. Artist information: German artist (born in Landsberg, based in Nuremberg), studied art history at the University of Augsburg; completed his PhD in art history in 2016 at LMU Munich under Wolfgang Augustyn; worked at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum as a trainee and research assistant; freelance artist since 2020, active member of the Nuremberg art scene; his art is characterised by colour as an artistic medium, oscillating between impulsive creativity and rational knowledge; in this way, he expands upon the truth championed by Yves Klein and Mark Rothko - that colour should be elevated to art - and confronts it with a stirring dynamism.
